The symbol is a representation of the bridge between the Wingfield and Illusory worlds. For him to depict the reality, there was dire need to apply symbolism. Williams also noticed that it was possible to make the realism flexible by adopting symbolism. However, he didnt let it influence him (K.J 234). Williams knew his society well and that it was full of realism. In the play of Tennessee Williams titled The Glass Menagerie, symbolism is used significatly in every aspect and also enhance the individual theme. Some actions, events, and spoken words may also have a symbolic value attached to them. Symbolism can also use an object to represent a completely differnent idea in an intense and highly significant way. Symbolism in literatuer is when symbols are applied to represent an idea or a quality by attaching a symbolic meaning that is different from the actual sense.
